We’ve heard howls of unhappiness coming from Wellington at the news that their beloved Matterhorn has been bought out by an Auckland company (although to be honest, few Wellingtionians that I know dig on the place, mostly it seems to be full of Aucklanders visiting for the weekend). Now they’re howling that the Matterhorn has switched from Supreme to Cafe L’affare as its coffee supplier. And just the other night on Shortland Street when Chris was making coffee in his plunger, what brand was he using? L’affare. Right, that’s enough evidence to convict. We’re picking L’affare as secretly Auckland. No wonder it doesn’t taste very good…
Oh, no. No no no. I’m sorry.
As a Wellingtonian who has moved to Auckland in the last 2 months, all I can say is NO.
1. The Matterho is loved by Wellingtonians. LOVED. It will be interesting to see if it changes with new ownership, but I will return next time I am home.
2. L’affare is awesome. This might be difficult for Aucklanders to accept as you guys are used to the weak brew that is AllPress, but L’affare is as much a Wellington coffee hard-core institution as Havana. Perhaps it is just slightly too strong for the Auckland latte-loving palate?
Look, no YOU are wrong. Speaking as the Wellingtonista, the’Ho is totally overrated, and L’affare is piss-weak. So there!
Oh, Jo – you need a proper barista to make you a l’affare coffee then, as it is awesome. Are you a Havana drinker? I would understand – they are very different and Havana has quite a kick.
And why are you anti-ho? What has the ho ever done to you? It has amazing food, great selection of booze and amazing service. I’m not sure why any of that is overrated? If not the ho – then where do you go?
