Parking your car safely and cheaply a handy distance from the venue doesn’t sit neatly in the annals of Rock alongside sweat, Marshall Stacks and bowls of M&Ms with the brown ones taken out. But you know, as Dave Grohl ripped into the 5th song of the encore last night, I definitely rocked just that little bit harder, safe in the knowledge MY wheels were right where I left it them at 7.00am that morning, not 500 meters from the Vector Arena‘s front door.
So, if you’re going to Vector for a gig, the netball or whatever else, don’t be ripped off by Wilsons’ and Tournament carparks nearby, who put on ‘special’ or ‘You must be taking the f*cking p*ss!?!’ rates for events. Park at Auckland City’s railway carpark in the morning at $7 for 24 hours, stroll down to Britomart and take the bus to work. Job done – just leave a space for me.
Or stay at the Quadrant a short stroll away!
Ah, touche! Do they have a pool a TV’s throw away?
They have a spa pool you can sneak into (or not sneak into, if it’s before 10pm), and if it’s good enough for Shihad to stay at, it should be good enough for you!
That’s quite the uphill hike though, from Vector to the Quadrant? Any tips for the lazies like myself?
Caro: book a rickshaw to take you up there?
(Wait, do they still have rickshaws? Or do I actually mean tuktuks? And do they still have those?)
No idea, I haven’t seen any around in a long time, and I didn’t think you could book them, don’t you have to flag them down?
A friend of mine was a rikshaw driver a couple of summers ago. The service runs during the summer months (provided gratis by Heart of the City). You just flag down one of the dudes on the street, but if you get to know one, you may be able to informally book a ride with him. (ooer)
